OUR EXPERIENCED STAFF

DEPARTMENTS

ANATOMY

The department manages spacious dissection halls with preserved specimens, plastic models, and histological slide sets. It organizes structured demonstrations, small-group tutorials, and weekly assessments to help first-year students master human structural anatomy.

BIOCHEMISTRY

The department operates a fully automated lab and a separate student practical area for running blood/urine tests. It conducts experiments on enzyme kinetics, metabolic pathways, and quality control to link molecular chemistry with clinical disorders.

PHYSIOLOGY

This department features functional labs equipped with kymographs, spirometers, and ECG machines for hands-on experiments. Faculty members conduct regular practical sessions, case-based discussions, and simulations to explain how normal body systems work.

PATHOLOGY

This department integrates histopathology, hematology, and microbiology labs under one roof. It demonstrates gross specimen cutting, slide preparation, and microscopic reading, while also teaching lab reporting and disease correlation through regular clinico-pathological conferences.

PHARMACOLOGY

The Department of Pharmacology at NSMC is dedicated to teaching the principles of pharmacology and therapeutics, enabling students to understand the actions, uses, adverse effects, and safe administration of drugs.

CARDIOLOGY

This specialized unit operates under the Department of Medicine, managing a dedicated Coronary Care Unit (CCU) and a state-of-the-art catheterization lab. It conducts bedside teaching on heart sounds, ECGs, echocardiography, and stress testing for students during clinical rotations.

SURGERY

This department manages surgical wards, operation theaters, a minor procedure room, and a dressing clinic. It organizes regular ward rounds, suture practice sessions, and assisted scrubbing in surgeries to teach operative basics and trauma care.

MEDICINE

The department oversees busy medical wards, outpatient clinics, and an ICU for bedside clinical teaching. It runs daily morning reports, case presentations, and long/short clinical rotations to develop diagnostic and patient management skills.

DERMATOLOGY

The Dermatology department focuses on the health of the skin, hair, and nails. It manages a wide spectrum of conditions ranging from common issues like acne, eczema, psoriasis, and fungal infections to more complex autoimmune skin diseases and skin cancers.

PEDIATRICS

The Pediatrics department is dedicated to the medical care of infants, children, and adolescents. The focus is on growth, development, and the unique diseases that affect younger populations, from common childhood illnesses like measles to more complex congenital disorders.

NEUROLOGY

The Neurology department deals with the diagnosis and treatment of disorders affecting the brain, spinal cord, and nervous system. Common conditions managed here include epilepsy, strokes, migraines, Parkinson's disease, and neuropathies.

ONCOLOGY

The Oncology department is responsible for the diagnosis and comprehensive management of cancer. This includes medical oncology (chemotherapy, targeted therapy), radiation oncology, and supportive/palliative care.

FORENSIC MEDICINE

The Forensic Medicine department, often paired with Toxicology, applies medical knowledge to legal matters. It is crucial for the justice system, involving the performance of post-mortem examinations (autopsies) to determine the cause, manner, and time of death.

COMMUNITY MEDICINE

The Community Medicine department focuses on the health of populations rather than individuals. Its scope includes epidemiology (the study of disease patterns), biostatistics, health promotion, disease prevention, and the planning and management of health services.
